Overview
At Zoox, you’ll collaborate with a team of world‑class engineers with diverse backgrounds in areas such as AI, robotics, mechatronics, planning, machine learning, control, localization, computer vision, rendering, simulation, distributed computing, design, and automated testing. You will be challenged to rethink what it means for hardware design to arrive at elegant and efficient systems now that a robot is in control.

- Design and develop mechanical components, including enclosures, grommets, brackets, and assemblies, for low to high-volume production.
- Manage supplier engagement and programs, overseeing both build‑to‑print and build‑to‑specification efforts.
- Execute packaging reviews and detailed tolerance stack‑up analyses.
- Collaborate with internal cross‑functional teams (e.g., electrical, test, manufacturing) and external partners to define requirements, iterate on designs, and gather technical feedback.
- Validate mechanical designs by performing structural, modal, and thermal analyses.
- Develop detailed work instructions for production in partnership with manufacturing engineers and technicians.
- Sustain and continuously improve existing programs based on lessons learned from test campaigns and real‑world fleet operations feedback.
- Manage and track system requirements and compliance using the Polarion requirements management system.
- Execute failure mode analysis, identifying root causes of failures, developing mitigation strategies, and integrating these learnings into new designs.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in vehicle design
- Experience with mechanical design for power electronic devices
- Experience with the casting of metal components
- Experience with injection molding of plastic components
- Knowledge of automotive development/release process and long‑term schedule planning
- Proficiency with CATIA V5 or V6 CAD software
- Experience managing requirements and compliance in Polarion.
- Familiarity with Jira
- Experience at an automotive OEM
- Familiarity with industry testing standards – SAE, MIL, UN, UL, GB/T, GTR
$145,000 - $175,000 a year
Base Salary Range
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign‑on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate’s relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance.
The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
