Overview
Source One is a consulting services company and we’re currently looking for the following individual to work as a consultant to our client, a ride-sharing autonomous vehicle company in Foster City, CA.
Pay Rate:
Up to $94.31/hr (W-2)
Work Schedule:
5 days in office, 40 hours/week but must be open to flexible hours (i.e. before or after typical business hours)
We are unable to work with third party companies or offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Summary:
We are seeking a Database Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable, secure data stores that power applications and analytics. In this role, you’ll partner closely with application and data teams to design schemas, tune performance, and automate database operations using AWS and infrastructure-as-code. Your work will improve reliability, control costs, and accelerate delivery from development through production.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on database engineer who enjoys owning systems end to end, collaborating cross-functionally, and continuously improving performance, security, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities- Design and implement scalable, reliable database solutions aligned with business and application requirements.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database software and supporting tooling.
- Monitor performance and optimize queries, indexes, and schemas to ensure availability and efficiency.
- Implement and maintain database security controls to protect sensitive data.
- Collaborate with application engineers to improve schema design, SQL usage, and data access patterns.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents across development, staging, and production environments.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration details, and runbooks.
- Perform capacity planning and recommend infrastructure and performance improvements.
- Manage and support AWS database services such as RDS, Aurora, and Redshift.
- Stay current on database technologies, cloud patterns, and operational best practices.
- Strong understanding of AWS and IaC for database resources
- Proven experience as a Database Engineer/DBA
- Deep knowledge of DBMSs (e.g., Postgre
SQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Redshift) - Proficiency in SQL and query optimization
- Solid grasp of data modeling, normalization, and schema design principles
- Hands-on experience with performance tuning and monitoring
- Understanding of backup/restore and disaster recovery procedures
- Knowledge of database security best practices
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Experience with Terraform Cloud and IaC workflows
- Automation/scripting with Python or Shell
- CI/CD for databases (e.g., Bamboo, Flyway, or similar)
