Postdoctoral Scientist – Fibrosis, Liver Disease

Position Overview

The Inflammation Biology group is seeking a passionate and driven postdoctoral scientist to pursue innovative research at the forefront of chronic fibrotic liver disease. This role offers a unique opportunity to explore the complex biology of conditions such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). This is a three-year postdoctoral training position at Gilead.

• Lead independent research projects to investigate pathogenic mechanisms in chronic fibrotic liver disease.
• Utilize Gilead’s single-cell and spatial transcriptomic datasets, as well as clinical datasets, to uncover novel mechanisms driving fibrotic niche expansion.
• Apply mouse genetic and pharmacology approaches to investigate key disease drivers and establish novel ex vivo models for target identification and screening.
• Design, conduct, and analyze in vitro and in vivo experiments to advance research toward publication in a top-tier journal.
• Publish work in top-tier journals and present at scientific conferences.

• Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or a related discipline.
• At least one first-author paper published or accepted in a peer-reviewed journal.
• Proficiency in mammalian cell biology and biochemistry techniques.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational skills.

• Broad hands-on expertise in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and imaging techniques including in vitro functional assays, primary cell cultures, transfection/transduction, CRISPR/Cas9, microscopy, flow cytometry, and immunoassays.
• Hands-on experience with mouse models of disease, in-life procedures, and tissue harvesting.
• Familiarity with analysis of large-scale multiomic datasets, such as single-cell and spatial transcriptomics.
• Experience developing complex primary cell co-culture systems.
• Demonstrable skills and experience in leading focused, hypothesis-driven biological research, exemplified by quality publications.
• Success in a cross-functional, highly collaborative team environment with clear communication to diverse audiences.
