Senior Research Associate – Virology & Immunology (HBV/Antiviral Research) Onsite Position - Foster City. CA Job Duration: 6 months
Job Description:
Specific Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual with a background in virology, cell-based biochemistry, or immunology and strong interest in investigating novel approaches to achieve functional cure for people living with HBV, HDV and so on.
The goal of our team is to rigorously test the most promising of these approaches so that we can rapidly advance them to the clinic and meaningfully improve treatment options for people living with HBV, HDV, HSV, etc.
Primary responsibilities will include:- Designing, validating and performing virology, cell-based biochemical, and immunology assays
- Construct and propagate mutant viruses
- Evaluating EC50 of selected drug candidates against wild‑type and mutant viruses
- Understanding mechanism of action (MOA) of lead compounds in clinical settings
- Interpreting results, proactively troubleshooting technical challenges and recommending potential solutions based on personal observations and/or literature searches
The work will be conducted in a highly interactive and collaborative multi-disciplinary scientific environment.
Essential Duties andJob Functions:
- Plans and executes experiments that support research activities and project goals.
- Demonstrates and applies a high level of understanding of project goals and methods.
- With general guidance and direction selects appropriate methods and techniques in performing experiments. Recommends creative solutions to problems, researches new methods and techniques and may proactively seek out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems.
- Works with limited to minimal supervision on projects of moderate scope and complexity. Participates in group meetings.
- Clearly presents results of work, interprets data, and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work.
Experience and Skills:
- Typically requires a BS/BA degree in Microbiology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Immunology, or other related life science discipline and minimum 4+ years of relevant experience.
- The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in one or more of the following techniques: primary cell isolation and culture, ELISA, molecular biology techniques such as RNA/DNA isolation, qPCR, cloning and virus production, immune cell functional assays, and multi‑color FACS.
- The candidate should be a creative and goal‑oriented problem solver capable of working independently.
- The candidate must be able to process data and evaluate data quality, including recognizing anomalous and inconsistent results.
- The candidate should have mature organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.
