Autonomous vehicles have some of the largest, most complex software ever shipped in a safety‑critical environment. Solving that problem is one of the most exciting technical challenges of our lifetime.
As a Systems Test Engineer on our System Behavior Analysis Autonomous team, you will play a critical role in the development of Zoox's autonomous platform, working with a broad set of engineering teams across Zoox. You will help triage and root cause the issues identified during testing and real-world operations, and produce reports and insights that inform leadership on overall quality and the influence of engineering decisions.
Responsibilities- Utilize data analytics to analyze and diagnose a wide range of system faults and errors related to perception, planner, and other AI software from both on‑road testing and system simulations.
- Effectively categorize and prioritize issues based on severity, urgency, and potential impact on safety and performance by working collaboratively with cross‑functional teams (engineering, software, testing).
- Identify trends in system failures and propose preventative measures to improve overall system safety and robustness by producing clear and concise reports of system issues, troubleshooting steps, and root‑cause analysis.
- Be hands‑on, lead by example, and develop tools and workflows to drive improvements for both quality and quantity aspects of triage.
- Demonstrate operational agility by quickly adapting to changing priorities, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and implementing effective solutions in dynamic environments.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a STEM‑related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems troubleshooting and diagnostics, preferably in the automotive or embedded systems industry.
- Experience using Python or a similar language for automation, programming, and scripting.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a methodical approach to root‑cause analysis.
- A passion for autonomous vehicle technology and safety is essential.
- Experience in a Quality Assurance or Triage role for Autonomous Driving.
- Project Management experience on programs involving cross‑functional partners and offshore teams.
- Experience with data analytics, dashboards, queries, etc. using SQL, Python, and/or Databricks.
$143,000 - $177,000 per year
Base salary range. Compensation includes salary, RSUs, and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign‑on bonus may be offered as part of the package. Compensation varies based on location and level. Zoox also offers benefits such as paid time off, health insurance, long‑term care, disability, and life insurance.
