Job Overview*** is helping our client find a Software Engineer - Mission Planning to develop high-level routing solutions that guide the company’s autonomous vehicles in transporting passengers safely and efficiently. In this role, you’ll build tools and infrastructure that enable the Mission Planning team to analyze data, iterate quickly, and improve routing behavior. You will frequently interface with mission planning software and the robot platform, giving you the rare opportunity to see your ideas directly reflected in real-world autonomous behavior.
Responsibilities- Investigate complex navigation and routing scenarios, determine root causes, and engineer solutions that optimize autonomous vehicle mission performance.
- Build tools and automation to accelerate analysis—starting with manual workflows and progressively evolving them into scalable, repeatable systems.
- Develop mission planning algorithms, including graph search techniques and integration with behavioral planning components.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of software components.
The candidate is analytical, creative, and excited about solving complex navigation challenges, and wants to build both the algorithms and the tools that power them. Passionate about tackling the complexities of mission planning in dynamic cities, the engineer will work closely with Cloud Services, decision‑making, trajectory planning, and controls teams to enable vehicles to choose the best routes in real‑time. They will enjoy seeing their software make an impact on the robot, and will be driven to design robust systems.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, mathematics, or related field.
- 6+ years of industry experience working on large code bases.
- Strong proficiency in Type Script/JavaScript and one or more of the frontend frameworks/libraries (React, Vue.js, Angular).
- Basic C++ knowledge.
- Experience with Linux and systems programming.
- Experience with database, front‑end and back‑end systems.
- Experience with build systems, version control, and testing methodologies.
- Understanding and experience with a variety of graph search techniques (A*, D*, Dijkstra).
- Strong proficiency in C++.
