Job Description
The Logistics Packaging Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and optimizing packaging solutions that ensure safe, cost‑effective, and efficient transport of products through the supply chain. This role works cross‑functionally with engineering, operations, procurement, quality, and logistics teams to deliver packaging systems that meet technical, sustainability, and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities Packaging Design & Development- Develop and engineer packaging solutions (corrugated, foam, plastics, returnable systems, etc.) for new and existing products.
- Create technical drawings, specifications, and packaging instructions using CAD tools.
- Arrange packaging validation tests (drop, vibration, environmental, compression) per ISTA, ASTM or internal standards.
- Optimize packaging to reduce cost, improve handling, and increase supply chain efficiency.
- Evaluate packaging performance throughout the supply chain, including warehousing, transport, and customer delivery.
- Collaborate with logistics partners to ensure packaging suitability for various modes (truck, ocean, air).
- Investigate and resolve packaging‑related issues such as damage, inefficiency, or non‑compliance.
- Identify opportunities for material reduction, part consolidation, or reusable packaging implementation.
- Support cost analysis and sourcing in selecting packaging materials and suppliers via a central department.
- Lead initiatives to improve sustainability through recyclable materials and eco‑friendly design alternatives.
- Maintain up‑to‑date documentation including packaging specs, test reports, and standard work instructions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (ISPM 15, etc.) and company quality standards.
- Support audits and supplier evaluations related to packaging performance and quality.
- Work with product design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure packaging meets product and process requirements.
- Support NPI (New Product Introduction) launches by developing packaging concepts and prototypes.
- Facilitate communication between internal teams and external suppliers/customers regarding packaging topics.
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 3 years of experience in packaging engineering, logistics packaging, or supply‑chain‑related packaging roles.
- Knowledge of packaging materials (corrugated, cushioning, plastics, pallets), testing standards, and design methodologies.
- Experience with CAD tools (ArtiosCAD, Solid Works, TOPS Pro, or similar).
- Understanding of supply chain processes including warehousing, shipment methods, and freight constraints.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and ability to work in cross‑functional teams.
- Knowledge of sustainability principles and packaging cost analysis is a plus.
- Familiarity with ISTA, ASTM, and ISO packaging test procedures.
- Experience with returnable/closed‑loop packaging systems.
- Data analysis skills using Excel, Minitab, or similar tools.
- Exposure to automotive, electronics, or industrial manufacturing environments.
