Position Title: Accountant
Location: Holy Spirit Catholic Church
Department: Parish Administration
Reports To: Pastor/Parish Administrator
Employment Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $28.00 to $32 per hour (based on experience, education, and qualifications)
Schedule: Business Hours
Position SummaryThe Accountant supports the financial operations of the parish by maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing daily accounting activities, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with diocesan policies and accounting standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage the day-to-day financial operations of the parish.
- Maintain accurate financial records and internal controls.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Assist with the annual budget process, including planning and reporting.
- Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts monthly.
- Manage fixed assets and maintain related records.
- Administer restricted and designated funds according to donor intent and diocesan guidelines.
- Coordinate year-end financial reporting and audit preparation.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Parish Finance Council.
- Manage financial aspects of capital campaigns and special projects.
- Process payroll using ADP Workforce Now and ensure payroll compliance.
- Maintain accounting records using Quick Books and other financial software.
- Process accounts payable, prepare checks, and record deposits and receipts.
- Monitor cash flow and budget performance.
- Maintain positive relationships with banks, vendors, auditors, and diocesan representatives.
- Prepare additional financial reports and perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Three to five years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred).
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable.
- Proficiency in Quick Books and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality.
- Experience in a church or nonprofit organization.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Vietnamese.
- Primarily office-based with regular use of computers and standard office equipment.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to operate office equipment and perform computer-based work.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
- Ability to assist with setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and equipment for meetings and events as needed.
