USBP is hiring immediately to fill full-time, entry-level, career positions in federal law enforcement. Train and work with an elite team of professionals whose camaraderie, pride, and sense of purpose are hallmarks of their daily mission of protecting America.

Salary and Benefits
  • Annual base salary for newly appointed BPAs varies per grade: GL-5/GL-7 $ 49,739 - $89,518 per year.
  • Benefits include health, dental and other insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan (a retirement plan akin to a traditional ROTH 401(k)).
  • Recruitment Incentive: up to $20,000; first $10,000 upon completion of the Border Patrol Academy, remainder after accepting a prioritized location.
  • Retention Incentive: up to $40,000 distributed over the first four years.
  • Duty location pay and potential additional 25% of base pay may apply per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and custom laws; inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers by maintaining surveillance from covert positions, including use of infrared scopes during night operations.
  • Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
  • Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
  • Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off‑road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.
Qualifications
  • GL‑5: One year of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree or a combination of both. Experience must demonstrate the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • GL‑7: One year of specialized work experience or a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement (GPA ≥ 3.0, class standing, or honor society membership), or a combination of both. Experience should show skill in decision‑making, use of firearms, courteous interaction with the public, rapid analysis of information, and the ability to make arrests after required training.

  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • Must be referred for selection before the 40th birthday (age restriction may not apply for certain military or federal civilian law enforcement positions).
