OC San is currently looking to fill the role of an Environmental Technician in the Ocean Monitoring Section within the Environmental Laboratory and Ocean Monitoring Division.
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine technical duties in support of OC San’s Source Control, Air Quality and Odor & Corrosion Control Programs, and OC San’s discharge permit, including monitoring and sampling of wastewater discharges and air emissions from sewers and plant processes, trunk lines and beach, maintenance of sampling equipment, operation and maintenance of the waste hauler station, and oversight of chemical discharges into the sewers for sulfide control;
and performs duties as assigned.
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Conduct surf zone sampling activities.
- Prepare and maintain sampling equipment and supplies including taking inventory, organizing, and labeling sample bottles.
- Log and/or receive samples into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Create and maintain chain-of-custodies.
- Prepare glassware and labeling of test chambers.
- Clean, maintain, repair, and calibrate sampling and laboratory equipment following established procedures and maintenance schedules or when needed.
- Order supplies, process samples for long-term preservation, and maintain the literature database and voucher collection.
- Perform data entry and tabulation.
- Maintain laboratory files and records, including documentation review.
- Clean and maintain assigned vehicles including washing and fueling.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and correct routine and unexpected problems.
- Wash and clean glassware on a routine basis or when instructed.
- Perform general housekeeping tasks throughout the workday.
- Perform related duties as needed.
- High school diploma or G.E.D., supplemented by specialized training or coursework in chemistry, biology, or a related field.
- One (1) year of related work experience, including experience in performing basic sampling and laboratory testing.
- Valid California Class C Driver's License.
- Knowledge and ability to perform techniques and methods of sampling, sterile technique, sample preservation and sample transport.
- Knowledge of computer equipment and applications related to the work, including database and spreadsheet applications.
