Under general supervision, performs increasingly complex maintenance, calibration, and repair of process control instrumentation and related equipment; implements additions or modifications to control systems; troubleshoots and repairs electrical, electronic, microprocessor‑based, pneumatic, and mechanical process control components; and performs duties as assigned.

The Technician identifies, isolates, and diagnoses equipment failures using a variety of test equipment; collects, organizes, and analyzes data and information; and creates, reviews, and edits P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, electrical schematics and diagrams, and control program logic.

Additional duties include installing, modifying, and reprogramming process control components such as variable frequency drives, control panels, cables, PLCs, DCS, and related equipment. The Technician assists with sourcing and installing parts, equipment, piping, and wiring in accordance with design specifications; calibrates instruments; tests systems; corrects equipment failures; and coordinates work and repairs with other divisions as needed.

• Identify, isolate, and diagnose equipment failures using a variety of test equipment.
• Collect, organize, and analyze data and information; create, review, and edit P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, electrical schematics and diagrams, and control program logic.
• Install, modify, and reprogram process control components such as variable frequency drives, control panels, cables, PLCs, DCS, and related equipment.
• Assist with sourcing and installing parts, equipment, piping, and wiring in accordance with design specifications; calibrate instruments; test systems; correct equipment failures; and coordinate work and repairs with other divisions as needed.

• High school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training or coursework in instrumentation technology or a related field.
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience maintaining, calibrating, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical process control instruments.
• Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
• Knowledge of instrumentation and controls (I&C) systems’ calibration and maintenance using conventional, best‑practice, industry‑standard methods, tools, equipment, and safety procedures (desired).
• ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) certification or successful completion of an I&C formal apprenticeship and/or accredited training program (desired).
• Effective and efficient troubleshooting and repair skills with extensive experience in I&C systems related to wastewater/chemical processing, electrical power generation with internal combustion engines, generators, and emissions monitoring, PLC/SCADA/DCS, and industrial control networking systems (desired).
• Ability to create, process, and review field data and other technical documentation to produce reports and analyses.
• Proficient use of computer applications, including MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, and IBM Maximo/CMMS.
• Familiarity with Beamex Field Calibrator and Communicator (desired).

Mobility to work in and around wastewater treatment plants, pump/lift stations, and related utility systems and facilities; ability to sit, stand, walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; frequent reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching; grasping and making repetitive hand movements; climbing and descending ladders; operating varied hand and power tools and equipment; operating a motor vehicle; and visiting various OC San sites, projects, and meetings.

Perform moderate to heavy physical work, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects averaging a weight of 51 pounds or heavier with proper equipment or assistance.
