Position Overview

The Arapahoe Facility is a 125 MW combined cycle, natural gas-fired plant with a PPA until 2046, located in Denver, CO.

The Challenge

This position performs instrument, control and electrical maintenance functions to ensure safe, environmentally compliant operation of a combined‑cycle power plant. You will provide technical and analytical services essential to the control systems and associated equipment (electronic, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic) and electrical maintenance (LV/MV/HV). These systems include digital control system, control circuits, power circuits, electrical and control devices on plant equipment.

You will participate in the plant maintenance program as a system owner and document plant maintenance records in a computer‑based work‑management system, including the Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS).

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, maintain and repair the plant’s electrical, controls and instrumentation systems as assigned. Specify and initiate purchase requisitions on assigned systems/equipment. Apply lock‑out/tag‑out process safely on owned equipment/systems or other equipment/systems when performing maintenance.
  • Responsible for electrical maintenance on equipment less than 600 volts and a backup responsibility for equipment greater than 600 volts.
  • Conduct job safety briefings (JSB) at turnover and perform quality JSBs for each job.
  • Verify absence of voltage on all systems (DC through 125 V and AC through 230 kV) using appropriate meters or non‑contact detectors.
  • Wire and unwire motors and other components as needed during outages and other maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot various electrical circuits (contractors, motor starters, single phasing on motors, lighting circuits, etc.) and communicate the cause of protective relay trips, repairing initiating problems where applicable in accordance with NERC standards.
  • Partner with a System Ownership team with other IC&E Technicians, Operations Technicians, Management and Engineering. Support and input into PLC/DCS/Controls programming and troubleshooting, calibrate, prioritize, monitor and review system health indicators, optimize system performance, maintenance strategy for each system, budget, spare parts, outage planning, purchase requisitions, training of systems, labeling, system procedure development/improvement and presentation of system health to management annually.

    Project manage system improvements as needed.
  • For PM or CM work, work collaboratively with shared boundaries of system ownership, completing tasks as a team.
  • Assist or provide oversight of other work groups (including contractors, vendors) during major overhauls or large equipment maintenance.
  • Operate various mobile equipment including forklifts, skid steers, telehandlers and similar equipment.
  • Actively participate in training and retraining programs as directed by Plant Management.
  • Function under written operating and maintenance procedures as required by Plant Management.
  • Respond promptly to emergency call‑outs when necessary.
  • Be available for night, overtime, weekend and holiday work as required.
  • May be required to support job responsibilities outside scheduled work hours.
