Assistant Controller Finance Leadership Opportunity | Career Growth | Make an Impact!

The Assistant Controller is a key member of Kennedy-Donovan Center’s Finance team and serves as a developmental leadership role with an anticipated pathway to the Controller position. Working closely with the Controller, this individual will gain comprehensive knowledge of KDC’s accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, regulatory requirements, and audit responsibilities.

This position is structured as a planned succession opportunity, with the anticipated goal of transitioning into the Controller role within approximately 6–9 months, based on demonstrated proficiency, performance, organizational needs, and readiness.

Monday - Friday, Full-Time

Location:

Foxboro, MA Compensation: $100-$110k / annually

Key Responsibilities:

Support and progressively assume responsibility for KDC’s accounting and financial operations, including the general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, revenue, expenses, and financial reporting.

Assist with month-end and year-end close processes and financial reporting requirements.

Monitor organizational and program budgets and analyze budget-to-actual results.

Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, allocations, and other accounting activities.

Support the annual independent audit, compliance audits, and preparation of Massachusetts Uniform Financial Reports (UFR).Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations and funding requirements.

Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve accounting and Finance processes.

Evaluate workflows and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and access to financial information.

Supervise, mentor, and support Accounting and Accounts Payable team members.

Partner with the Controller, Finance team, and organizational leadership to provide accurate and timely financial information.

Support additional Finance projects and responsibilities as assigned.

* PTO is calculated using an accrual rate based on hours worked.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field and/or CPA certification; OR Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a minimum of seven years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.

Director-level or equivalent experience in accounting or finance, preferably within a nonprofit organization.

Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and internal controls.

Experience supervising and developing Finance or Accounting team members.

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Demonstrated experience improving processes, workflows, systems, or automation within accounting or Finance.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Significant nonprofit accounting or financial leadership experience.

Experience designing and managing accounting information systems.

Familiarity with Blackbaud Financial Edge or similar accounting software.

Experience preparing Massachusetts Uniform Financial Reports (UFR).Experience managing organizational budgets, audits, and complex financial reporting.

Strong problem-solving and process improvement skills.
