Job Description

To assist the Transportation Manager in providing safe, efficient and economical transportation for the students of the Foxborough Public Schools through the operation of our school bus system.

QUALIFICATIONS

Supervisory experience relating to the operation of a school transportation system preferred.
College degree preferred
Must have a current CDL license with passenger and school bus endorsement or be willing to get it within first six months, training available.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software is required.
Ability to learn and utilize existing transportation routing software.
Experience with Transfinder a plus.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be mature and of good moral character, with the personality and human relation skills necessary to work well in a school setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains knowledge of all current School Committee Policies, State laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of a school transportation system. Maintains all current driver files in compliance with all local, State and Federal laws, regulations and requirements for school transportation programs.

Act as a substitute driver as needed.

Assists Transportation Manager in the development of safe, efficient and economical bus routes.

Prepares daily schedules, books and assigns all athletic and extracurricular trips in accordance with seniority requirements as listed in the School Bus Driver Contract.

Contact licensed school bus drivers to act as substitutes when regular drivers are unable to drive their assigned trips or routes.

Facilitate and track all reports pertaining to accidents or incidents relating to student transportation.

Assist with the preparation of the transportation payroll on a bi‑weekly basis, as well as invoicing of all billable trips.

Assists with compiling and preparing documents for data entry and enters data into various computer software applications and transportation systems.

Advises school bus drivers regarding changes in bus routes, trips, transportation laws and regulations, district policies and procedures.

Responsible for scheduling in‑service meetings for bus drivers, crossing guards and maintaining records of training hours received and needed by driver

Provides drivers with current route sheets, maps, and any other items necessary, as needed, for completing their assignments.

Operates a two‑way radio to dispatch drivers including regular and special education drivers. Assures that all school bus routes have buses and drivers assigned.

Ability to communicate with all bus drivers by means of two‑way radio, to receive or provide information to help resolve situations such as equipment breakdowns, road hazards, accidents, student locations, route changes or emergencies as well as notifying the schools of these issues.

Other duties related to transportation as requested by the Transportation Manager, the School Business Administrator or his/her designee.

REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of two‑way radio equipment operation and/or dispatching devices.
Knowledge of appropriate transportation laws, policies and regulations.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
