Overview

The Banker Apprentice represents Middlesex Savings Bank to the public and to colleagues, promoting the Bank's core values and mission. This position provides training to acquire and develop the skills to function as a Banker I. The training focuses on technical skills (processing transactions, opening and servicing accounts) and advisory skills (uncovering customer needs and providing information on suitable products). During training, trainees will promote strong customer relationships by conducting a wide array of customer transactions, assisting customers with questions and problem resolution, and recommending appropriate products and services.

The Bank will support the Banker Apprentice in earning a General Education Diploma (GED) upon hire. The GED must be earned within six months of hire. Candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and a commitment to the program as they attend trainings toward earning their GED.

Responsibilities
  • Customer Experience – Develop an understanding of customers’ needs and expectations, and offer products and services that address those needs. Develops new business by establishing and growing customer relationships, including utilization of business partners as appropriate.
  • Operational Excellence – Ensure quality and accuracy of work. Develops technical knowledge of bank products, services, and technology. Stay informed of alerts and company communications. Perform duties in compliance with security and risk protocols. Maintain proficiency in regulatory compliance. Comply with bank policies including confidentiality and email.
  • Teamwork – Be an engaged member of the branch team; support branch supervisors in implementing policies, procedures and initiatives and in creating a positive work environment.
  • Credibility – Follow through on tasks, manage time and priorities, communicate professionally in writing, verbally and electronically. Support strategic goals and take ownership of learning and development, partnering with supervisors and training staff to complete program requirements.
  • Decision Making – Understand and comply with bank policies and procedures. Escalate requests for exceptions to branch supervisors as appropriate. Recognize potential risks and alert supervisors. Learn to recognize warning signs of fraud and escalate appropriately.
  • Miscellaneous – Perform related duties within authority to provide high levels of service and responsiveness to customers and co-workers.
Requirements

Work Experience

  • 6–12 months of cash handling or customer service experience is required

Additional Requirements

  • Upon hire, the Banker Apprentice must earn their GED within six months. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action up to termination. The Bank will connect you with the GEDWorks resource to support you in this process.
  • Must possess knowledge of basic math principles and be able to perform basic mathematical procedures.
  • Demonstrated customer service, sales, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail.
  • Must possess at least intermediate technology skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to work extended and weekend hours; scheduling and work location flexibility required.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods and stand for extended periods; must be able to lift 25 pounds.
Expected Pay Range

The expected annual pay range for this role is $34,093 to $40,609. This pay range is the annual salary we in good faith expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation paid may fluctuate higher or lower than the posted range and may be modified in the future due to factors including experience, certifications, qualifications, internal equity, and business needs.
