Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The tutor supports high school students enrolled in college-level courses by providing remote, subject-specific academic assistance. The goal is to enhance students' understanding of course material, build academic confidence, and improve study habits, all while promoting equity and access in education.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Tutors work under the supervision of the Early College Program staff affiliated with the Metro West College Planning Collaborative.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

This position does not involve supervision of other staff. Tutors are responsible only for supporting assigned students and do not oversee other employees.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide tutoring in subjects like English, Sociology, Business, Health Science, Philosophy, History, Global Studies, Business Communication, and Communication.

* Help students understand assignments and prepare for tests.

* Teach and reinforce skills in time management, note-taking, and critical thinking.

* Tailor tutoring methods to accommodate different learning styles and needs.

* Maintain open communication with students and program staff.

* Log session notes and track student progress.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

* This is a remote, part-time position.

* Work is conducted after school hours and on weekends.

* Scheduling is flexible and based on tutor and student availability.

* Tutors must have reliable internet access and be able to work independently from within the United States.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Strong academic background in one or more relevant subject areas.

* Currently enrolled in or completed college-level coursework.

* Ability to clearly and patiently explain academic content.

* Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

* Reliable internet access and capability to work remotely and independently.

* Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Prior experience tutoring or mentoring high school or college students.

* Familiarity with early college or dual enrollment programs.

* Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese are strongly encouraged to apply.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time, non-benefited contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The pay rate is $23-26 per hour.
