Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Writing tutors in the Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) provide one-on-one tutoring to undergraduate and graduate students to help improve their writing skills across disciplines. Tutors assist students at all stages of the writing process from brainstorming and outlining to revising and finalizing papers. This role is vital in promoting academic success, writing confidence, and communication skills.
CASA offers tutoring:
Monday-Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday 9am-1pm, and Sunday 5pm-9pm.
Hourly rate is commensurate with experience.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide individualized tutoring sessions to students on writing assignments, including essays, research papers, reports, and other academic writing
* Help students develop critical writing skills, such as idea development, thesis construction, organization, clarity, grammar, and citation formatting (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.)
* Provide tutoring to individual students both in-person and via Zoom
* Collaborate effectively with staff and students to support academic success
* Stay informed about writing center policies, resources, and best practices
* Participate in tutor meetings and trainings
* Support a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for students of all backgrounds and abilities.
* Accountable for ensuring that affirmative action, equal opportunity, and diversity are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility
* Responsible for reporting to the Equal Opportunity Officer or Title IX Coordinator knowledge or receipt of reports of discrimination, discriminatory harassment, and retaliation from students or other members of the university community.
* Accountable for ensuring that equal opportunity, inclusion, and equity are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in English or related field
* Ability to explain writing concepts clearly and patiently
* Willingness to work with students from diverse academic backgrounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program
* Master's degree in English or related field
* Teaching experience considered beneficial.
* Experience working with multilingual learners
Additional Information:
This is a part-time, non-benefited, contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The scheduled hours will be scheduled during the hours of Monday-Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday 9am-1pm, and Sunday 5-9pm. The pay rate is $28-30/hour, determined based on education and experience.
