Assisting student(s) with disabilities under the direction of a certified teacher in an inclusionary setting. Typical duties include supporting academic, social, and behavioral needs, providing physical and emotional safety, using technology, and caring for students' dignity and independence.
Qualifications- Associate or higher degree preferred.
- Experience working with children, especially students with disabilities such as Autism, Developmental Delays, Multiple Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, and Emotional Disabilities, is preferred.
- Specialized training in child development, education, or related field desirable.
- Strong oral and written communication.
- Ability to read, analyze professional literature, and interpret regulations.
- Sound reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
- Capacity to use evidence‑based research for instructional decisions.
- Commitment to cultural proficiency and working with diverse backgrounds.
- Professionalism in handling unpredictable situations.
- Proficiency with technology, including Google Workspace.
- Experience interpreting assessment data and reporting.
- Strong collaboration, instruction, coaching, and leadership skills.
- Ability to use data to inform instruction.
- Knowledge of laws and educational procedures.
- Ability to plan and implement lessons aligned with district goals.
- Proficient in integrating instructional technology.
- Solution‑focused approach to supporting student growth.
- Assist in instruction and supervision of students in inclusion, small group, individual, or separate setting under teacher direction.
- Support students with special needs following IEP provisions.
- Administer standardized and non‑standardized tests and other assessments.
- Provide crisis management and physical assistance as required, with training provided.
- Attend training and maintain certification in de‑escalation and physical management techniques.
- Collect data and report student progress.
- Escort and supervise students to and from school facilities.
- Collaborate with special education, general education educators, and related service staff.
- Create a positive learning environment and respond to student needs.
- Assist with daily tasks such as eating, mobility, communication, dressing, toileting, including diapering.
- Promote independence for students with disabilities.
- Safeguard confidential information per FERPA and HIPAA.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Move throughout the school building and may need to stand, walk, or push a wheelchair for extended periods.
- Remain in stationary position for periods; reach with hands, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lift up to 20 lbs and use tools.
- Operate computer and office equipment.
- Communicate via email, telephone, and in person.
- May need to move quickly across uneven surfaces; may contact students outdoors.
- Exposure to bodily fluids, disease, pathogens possible; may be injured by aggressive students; may provide limited personal care or toileting assistance.
