Overview

Position Summary: The Library and Media Specialist ensures that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information technology; to guide and support the use of all of the district’s technology resources both in and out of the classroom; to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and responsible digital citizens. The Library & Media Specialist ensures equitable access to information resources and collaborates with classroom teachers to design instruction that aligns with the school’s mission.

This commitment aligns with Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to quality instruction, academic proficiency for all students, and closing the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.

Qualifications
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • Valid Massachusetts Teaching License In Library (All Levels)
  • Training And Experience
    • Educational Requirement: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related field required;
      Master’s Degree preferred.
    • Professional

      Experience:

      Proven track record of delivering high-quality instruction and managing a diverse classroom environment. Experience working in a school district or educational setting is required.
    • Language Proficiency:
      Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferred.
  • Skills And Ability
    • Differentiated Instruction:
      Design and implement instructional interventions to meet diverse needs, including those with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners.
    • Data-Driven Decision Making:
      Analyze assessment data to track student growth and adjust instruction.
    • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL):
      Integrate SEL frameworks to support a safe, inclusive, trauma-informed classroom culture.
    • Content Pedagogy & Foundational

      Skills:

      Pedagogical knowledge to ensure mastery of core concepts and grade-level proficiency.
    • Restorative Practices:
      Utilize restorative justice to manage behavior and resolve conflicts constructively.
    • Curriculum Alignment:
      Align lesson plans with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district goals.
    • Adaptive Technology Integration:
      Use Google Classroom, interactive whiteboards, and educational software to enhance engagement and accessibility.
    • Collaborative Leadership:
      Work within PLCs and multidisciplinary teams to support student success.
    • Cultural Proficiency:
      Foster an equitable and inclusive environment for staff, students, and families.
    • Professionalism & Composure:
      Maintain regular attendance and professionalism in classroom settings.

    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design, teach, and assess learning experiences that incorporate inquiry, information literacy, and critical thinking.

    • Teach advanced search techniques, including online engines, databases, and catalog searching.
    • Empower students to be ethical users of information and responsible digital advocates.
    • Use instructional technology to improve learning outcomes and teach students to construct new knowledge.
