About the School: The Christa McAuliffe Charter School is an EL Education school for 340 scholars in grades 6‑8, offering a hands‑on curriculum that inspires achievement through active learning, character growth, and teamwork.
STEAM Program andPosition Overview
McAuliffe is launching an innovative new STEAM program in the 2026–27 school year, offered five days a week as an alternative to World Language. The program will engage students in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics, developing critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills. It will expand over time to include design challenges, coding, applied mathematics, digital arts, environmental science, and robotics.
The teacher will design and lead this program.
- In consultation with the Director of Teaching and Learning, develop units and lessons for the STEAM program.
- Teach four sections of STEAM classes, using student‑centered instruction.
- Stay current on best practices in STEAM instruction.
- Provide differentiated support, including accommodations and modifications for all students.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, including observations and feedback from an instructional coach.
- Implement school‑wide positive behavioral systems to manage the classroom.
- Communicate regularly with students’ families regarding performance and progress.
- Maintain the STEAM lab and all equipment.
- Serve as a Crew advisor to approximately 12 students, leading a daily advisory and communicating with parents/guardians.
- Act as an active member of the McAuliffe Community, attending evening celebrations of student learning.
- Deep understanding of STEAM and the ability to build a program from the ground up.
- Experience in teaching STEAM at the middle‑school level or related fields.
- Expertise with iterative design and various assessment methods.
- Commitment to developing curriculum and implementing EL Education core practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and willingness to reflect and grow.
- Massachusetts DESE licensure in a STEAM field.
- Remain stationary for extended periods.
- Move about the classroom and school building to assist students.
- Lift or move instructional materials up to 25 lb occasionally.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents in person and digitally.
Salary Range: $41,952 (step 0, Bachelor’s) – $84,016 (step 20, Master’s). Final base salary will be based on skills, education, and experience.
