Physical Education, AfterCare, and Support Teacher

Schedule:

Flexible, approximately 32 hours a week, School-day PE classes plus afternoon aftercare hours, generally 11:00am - 5:30pm M-F

Position Overview

Summit Montessori School is seeking a caring, energetic, and dependable educator to serve in a dual-role position as a Part-Time Physical Education Teacher and Part-Time Aftercare and Support Teacher. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children across multiple age groups, though primarily Elementary, and values a collaborative, child-centered learning environment rooted in Montessori principles.

The successful candidate will lead engaging physical education activities and offer support for recess and lunch coverage during the school day and help create a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for students during the aftercare program.

Key Responsibilities

Physical Education Teacher Responsibilities

• Plan and lead age-appropriate physical education classes for K-6 students, approximately five classes per week.
• Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy habits
• Organize games and activities that build coordination, confidence, and social skills
• Ensure student safety during all indoor and outdoor activities
• Communicate effectively with faculty and families regarding student progress and participation
• Maintain equipment and organize activity spaces
• Regularly support Elementary recess and lunch

Aftercare Teacher Responsibilities

• Supervise children during after-school hours, ensuring a safe and supportive environment
• Plan and facilitate engaging indoor and outdoor activities
• Reinforce classroom expectations, ground rules, and respectful behavior
• Guide and support children in conflict resolution using positive communication strategies
• Foster a calm, inclusive, and positive atmosphere in the Aftercare Program
• Collaborate effectively with faculty and staff throughout the school day
• Supports the core values of Summit Montessori School, including dedication to the School's DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives

Qualifications

• A child-centered, holistic approach to education
• Genuine enthusiasm for working with young children
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Openness to ongoing professional development and learning
• Maturity, responsibility, and strong interpersonal skills
• Minimum of an Associate’s degree (or equivalent); additional experience or training in physical education is preferred
• Understanding of the MA Physical Fitness requirements and an ability to translate these into age appropriate curriculum

Compensation

Compensation is competitive and based on experience and qualifications.
