TITLE:

Percussion Instructor (Indoor Season) Seasonal Stipend Position

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide equitable co-curricular instruction and enrichment to students outside of regular school hours to either further develop a field of study and/or interest or introduce an area of study to enhance the teaching of the whole child.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in the area of study is preferred.

TRAINING AND

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in the field with appropriately aged students. Professional experience and/or experience in a school setting.

SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the educational field.
  • To communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

  • To write reports and correspondence, as needed.
  • To use reasoning ability to evaluate information and determine/recommend an appropriate course of action.
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community.
  • To work independently, prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • To maintain appropriate confidential records.
  • Strong collaborative, teaching, coaching and leadership skills to support student programming.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to support student success.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed:

  • Attend the rehearsals, band camps, and performances, actively participating in assisting students in sectional and whole group rehearsals.
  • Teach drum line basics (Marching techniques and stick work).
  • Choreograph and teach the routine for the show.
  • Assign equipment responsibilities and assign equipment to students.
  • Work with the pit to teach and assist with the memorization of music.
  • Work with the drill writer to check the positioning of the drum line and pit in each musical selection.
  • Assist in teaching the drill for the show.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Fine and Performing Arts or Band Director that will provide for a successful program.

    FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION:

    This position is classified as Exempt (Professional).

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Covered under the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit

    A) Contract. Meets once each week for 1-3 hours is required. Payment due at the end of the assignment.
