Job Summary

The Framingham Youth Theatre (FYT) Summer Program Assistant Teacher provides high‑level instructional support to the teacher, ensuring the delivery and development of specialized summer programs for the district’s students. The role enhances the educational experience by managing daily schedules, facilitating curriculum activities, applying knowledge of healthy social and emotional development, maintaining a safe environment, and ensuring clear communication between staff, families, and colleagues.

The assistant teacher serves as a vital resource, requiring exceptional problem‑solving skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.

Training and Experience
  • Educational Requirement: High school diploma required; additional post‑secondary education credits in a related field preferred.

    Experience:

    Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an educator in a school or community‑based setting preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Basic knowledge of effective youth theatre principles, practices, and trends preferred.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese strongly preferred.
Skills and Ability
  • Communication & Presentation: Communicate clearly in oral and written forms; effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, parents, and the public.
  • Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Read, analyze, and interpret professional periodicals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations to inform decisions for student success.
  • Relationship Building & Cultural Proficiency: Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, caregivers, staff, and the community in an equitable, inclusive manner.
  • Professionalism, Attendance & Adaptability: Maintain regular and punctual attendance; respond professionally to unpredictable situations.
  • Organizational Management: Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality: Adhere to district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies; maintain appropriate confidential records in accordance with FERPA/603 CMR 28.00.
  • Instructional Leadership: Apply knowledge of current research and theory in education; demonstrate teaching, coaching, and leadership skills in a team setting.
  • Technology: Operate and acquire skills in computer software, including Google Workspace, and use instructional technology appropriately to facilitate learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the teacher to design, develop, and refine high‑quality out‑of‑school time programming that meets district standards.
  • Assist in monitoring student attendance and academic performance, using data to support student growth and program efficacy.
  • Provide support to team members to maintain a safe, productive, and efficient environment for all staff and students.
  • Assist in documenting program incidents by preparing comprehensive reports in accordance with district protocols and safety regulations.
  • Assist with delivering high‑quality academic and enrichment curricula, ensuring activities are engaging and educationally sound.
  • Motivate and mentor students to establish and achieve rigorous academic and personal objectives.
