Job Description

Marie Philip School – Elementary division (Exempt/Salary, 11-Month) seeks dynamic, charismatic and energetic educators to support deaf and hard of hearing students in an ASL/English bilingual, bicultural educational model. The role involves creating a positive classroom community, planning instruction, assessing student learning, and supporting individualized education goals.

Responsibilities
  • Establish an organized physical space and a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to drive instruction.
  • Plan instruction, engage learners, and employ appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Monitor student understanding and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments as needed.
  • Utilize available resources to reflect on and improve professional knowledge and practice.
  • Write annual IEP goals, monitor progress quarterly, and attend IEP meetings.
  • May be delegated medication administration or certain medical procedures for a student under the teacher’s care.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Massachusetts State Teacher Certification (or certification from a reciprocal state)
  • Master’s Degree in Deaf Education
  • Minimum conversational fluency in American Sign Language required; native or near-native ASL preferred
  • Prior experience working with children preferred
  • ASL classes may be required based on ASL fluency
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively within a team
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
  • Bachelor degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
