Early Childhood Center Classroom Teachers of the Deaf work with students in an ASL/English bilingual, bilingual, bicultural setting. Using a Reggio‑Emilia inspired philosophy, teachers set instructional objectives, design and prepare instruction, plan supportive activities, communicate learning goals, and build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to enhance each student’s ability to learn effectively.

• Establish an organized, creative classroom environment that supports student learning and involvement.
• Comply with school, state, and federal policies and support the mission of the school.
• Communicate clearly with students in their first language (ASL).
• Maintain a current working knowledge of Reggio‑Emilia philosophy, TLC curricula, MA Curriculum Frameworks, Common Core State Standards, and MCAS procedures.
• Develop and use authentic assessments of student learning through documentation (photos, video) and formative and summative data.
• Plan instruction effectively, engage learners, and use appropriate instructional techniques.
• Monitor student understanding and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments as needed.
• Maintain classroom standards of behavior, mutual respect, and safety.
• Make learning goals clear and maintain high standards and expectations.
• Promote confidence and perseverance, stimulating increased personal responsibility.
• Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to diversity among students.
• Cooperate in a constructive relationship with parents and accept their contributions.
• Maintain professional boundaries.
• Collaborate with other staff on interdisciplinary curriculum and propose improvements.
• Analyze, reflect upon, and refine professional knowledge and skills using available resources.
• Plan and complete testing or data collection, documentation, and interpretation of data.
• Maintain student and staff confidentiality.
• Adhere to professional appearance standards per TLC policy.
• Participate actively in professional development activities and meetings for continuous improvement.
• Write annual IEP student goals and work steadily to help students attain them.
• Monitor and report IEP progress quarterly; attend IEP meetings; maintain accurate records.
• Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to students, department, and school needs.
• Oversee implementation of behavior plans for individual students as needed.
• Assume delegated medication administration or certain medical procedures for students under care, if required.
• Drive students and perform additional driving responsibilities as needed.
• Assist students with diapering, toileting, and self‑care as needed.
• Perform lifting and other physical tasks as required for safety or inclusive care.
• Complete any additional tasks assigned by the Department Supervisor or Program Leader.

Must be physically able to perform all job duties, including frequent lifting, bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, typing, prolonged standing or sitting.

• Massachusetts State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education, Deaf Education, or Special Education (or reciprocal state).
• Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Deaf Education, or Special Education.
• Minimum conversational fluency in American Sign Language required; native or near‑native ASL fluency preferred (ASL classes may be required).
• Written language competency.
• Experience working with young children.
• Familiarity with the Reggio‑Emilia philosophy.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an educational team.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience (preferred).
