Job Description

The Special Education Aide (1:1 support) provides individualized academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional support to a student throughout the school day. Working under the direction of the special education teacher and in collaboration with the Phoenix Program team, the aide assists the student in accessing instruction, navigating the curriculum, building independence, and implementing individualized behavior and support plans.

Program support includes individualized instruction, behavioral interventions, and therapeutic services in a low staff‑to‑student environment. A stipend of $1,500 is available for paraprofessionals in specified classrooms or support roles.

Eligibility and Qualifications
  • Associate (or higher) degree, or at least 48 credit hours of post‑secondary education from an accredited institution. If not, must pass the Parapro Test.
  • Experience working with children, especially students with disabilities in Autism, developmental delays, multiple disabilities, learning disabilities, or emotional disabilities is preferred.
  • Specialized training in child development, education, or a related field is desirable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist instruction and supervision across academic, social, and behavioral contexts.
  • Support students per their Individual Education Program (IEP).
  • Assist students with testing and data collection.
  • Provide crisis and physical management support, including restraint procedures.
  • Maintain certification in de‑escalation and physical management.
  • Collect data and report progress.
  • Escort and supervise students within school facilities.
  • Collate a collaborative approach with special, general, and related‑service staff.
  • Assist with daily living tasks such as eating, mobility, communication, dressing, and toileting.
  • Promote independence for students with disabilities.
  • Safeguard confidential information under FERPA and HIPAA.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by teacher, principal, advisor, or superintendent.
Physical Working Conditions
  • Movement throughout the school building required.
  • Stationary periods, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Use of hands, grasp tools, and assist students with physical difficulties.
  • Operation of computer and office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate via email and telephone.
  • Attend classroom activities and outdoor recess.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids or injury risk from students.
  • Assist with toileting as needed.
Reporting Structure
  • Reports to:

    Building Principal & Coordinator of Special Education Evaluation Team.
Classification and Employment Terms

Non‑Exempt (Hourly). Covered under Framingham Teachers Association (Unit T) Contract. Possibility of transfer.
