Salary Range: $59,561.00 - $89,318.00

American Sign Language Required

Sign-on Bonus: $1,500

About Marie Philip School: MPS enrolls nearly 200 Deaf and hard-of-hearing students on the Framingham campus in an ASL/English bilingual, bicultural educational model.

We are looking for dynamic, charismatic, and energetic educators to join our family and support our Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Position Summary

Classroom Teachers of the Deaf create, with the students, a community of learners where students feel respected and honored. Teachers set instructional objectives, design and prepare instruction, and plan and implement activities that meet age-appropriate emotional, physical, and instructional needs. Teachers communicate learning goals and high standards to students. Teachers build positive relationships with parents and colleagues to enhance each student’s ability to learn effectively.

Functions

and Responsibilities
  • Establish an organized physical space and a positive classroom environment that supports student learning and involvement.
  • Use assessment to drive instruction (formative and summative).
  • Plan instruction effectively, engage learners, and use appropriate instructional techniques.
  • Monitor student understanding and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when needed.
  • Utilize available resources to analyze and refine professional knowledge and skills.
  • Write annual IEP goals, support students to attain these goals, report IEP progress quarterly, and attend IEP meetings.
  • Some lifting may be required when working with young students or students with special needs; accommodations and modifications will be made as possible.
  • Assignments may include heavier physical responsibilities depending on student needs; specifics discussed at interview when applicable.
  • May be delegated medication administration or certain medical procedures under a student’s care.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor.

Job Requirements
  • Massachusetts State Teacher Certification (or certification from a reciprocal state)
  • Master’s Degree in Deaf Education
  • Minimum conversational fluency in American Sign Language; native or near-native ASL preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration with colleagues and families
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an educational team
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
