Position: First-Year Writing Studio Tutors (part-time)

First-Year Writing Studio Tutors (Part-Time)

Studio coaches will lead small group tutoring sessions (capped at
6), providing reading and writing support for students in their first-year writing classes. The position does not require session preparation or grading, but it does require coordination with and reporting to the primary classroom instructor throughout the semester. Each studio will require an estimated 20-25 hours over the course of the semester, and tutors may be assigned more than one studio section.

Supervision is received from the Studio Coordinator based on the support provided to the students and the information provided to the ENWR 100 instructor. Studio coaches report weekly attendance and level of participation of students to the ENWR 100 instructor.

Examples of specific duties and responsibilities include serving as a writing and reading coach for up to six students per studio, checking in weekly with the ENWR 100 classroom instructor for each studio to stay informed about classroom instruction, submitting a weekly report on attendance and participation for each student to the instructor, meeting with the classroom instructor to discuss progress and concerns near the middle of the semester and again during finals week, holding two office hours specifically for studio students during the first two days of exam week to provide additional support, attending an orientation/training in late summer, and meeting with the Studio Coordinator at least once during the semester to discuss performance.

Minimum qualifications include an M.A. or M.F.A. in English and experience teaching writing courses for first-year students at a state university or college, particularly introductory level writing courses. Preferred experience in tutoring first-year writing students in college is also desired, with preference given to tutors who have served as instructors for Framingham State's first-year writing courses.

This is a part-time non-benefited, contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The scheduled hours are flexible, depending upon program needs. The pay rate is $48.50 per hour.

Framingham State University conducts criminal history and sexual offender record checks on recommended finalists prior to final employment for all positions. The university is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Members of underrepresented groups, minorities, women, veterans, persons with disabilities, and all persons committed to diversity and inclusive excellence are strongly encouraged to apply.
