Marie Philip School – Special Education – Exempt/Salary – 11-Month – Full-Time

Salary Range: $59,633.28 - $89,728.38

American Sign Language Required

Sign-on Bonus: $1,500

Position Summary

Functional Academics — Students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities

Provides classroom instruction for students with moderate to severe disabilities, including deafness, within a Secondary setting (grades 6-8 or 9-12+). Prepares lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with IEPs and state curriculum frameworks, and teaches life, community, and transition skills. Evaluates and documents progress data, and serves as an advisor/advocate for students. Works in a team or departmental capacity as assigned.

Secondary Special Education Coordinator

Functions and Responsibilities
  • Instruct students with various disabilities and deafness, in collaboration with school staff.
  • Use assessments to drive instruction (formative and summative).
  • Plan effective instruction, engage learners, and employ appropriate instructional techniques.
  • Monitor understanding and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments as needed.
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary curriculum and contribute to program improvements.
  • Write annual IEP goals and work toward attainment with students.
  • Oversee implementation of behavior plans as needed.
  • May involve lifting and handling as part of inclusive practices with accommodations as appropriate.
  • May be delegated medication administration or other medical procedures when required by a student under care.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Program Leader.

Job Requirements
  • Licensed or able to be licensed by Massachusetts DESE as a Teacher of the Deaf or a Teacher of Moderate or Severe Disabilities
  • Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum conversational fluency in American Sign Language; native or near-native ASL fluency preferred
  • ASL classes may be required based on ASL fluency
  • Prior experience working with children preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration within the agency
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an educational team
  • Written English language competency
  • Physical requirements:

    ability to perform duties including frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and prolonged standing or sitting
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
  • Bachelor degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
