Lead Distribution Engineer
Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in the Framingham, MA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role is responsible for ensuring every project—simple or complex—meets exceptional quality standards. You will work directly with clients to maintain Leidos’ reputation for high-quality work.
This position is hybrid: 3 days per week in the office, 2 days per week remote.
Responsibilities- Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages; perform engineering design and analysis; potentially work on programmatic, capital, or reliability design such as 3rd‑party attachment, make‑ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc. designs.
- Be responsible for QA/QC tasks on the assigned team and perform quality reviews of the team’s designs prior to client submittals.
- Review engineering design packages with clients and organize existing program work.
- Perform scope analysis of assigned work and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
- Interact directly with clients on a frequent, as‑needed basis.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
- Be comfortable in both a field and office setting; the role may require customer‑site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages.
- In the future, the role may involve hiring responsibilities for the team.
- 8+ years of relevant experience working electric distribution projects in a consulting environment for electric utilities or working directly at an electric utility.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an engineering‑specific bachelor’s degree.
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Experience with engineering design quality control.
- Familiarity with pole loading software (O‑Calc, Pole Foreman, etc.) and distribution pole analysis.
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer‑related travel may be anticipated (travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates).
- Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; the role may require customer‑site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Previous QA/QC experience.
- Experience providing estimated costs, developing a BOM, calculating the CIAC.
- Demonstrated history of customer interaction.
- Proven experience and proficiency with STORMS software and GIS is preferred.
- Prior leadership experience is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, written and interpersonal.

Pay Range: $92,300.00 – $. The pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Employment benefits include competitive compensation, health and wellness programs, income protection, paid leave, and retirement.
