Substation Physical Engineer – Career
Leidos invites a Substation Physical Engineer to design and execute substation electrical projects for electric utilities ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. Candidates will apply digital logic design, AC/DC circuit knowledge and substation design skills to support electrical generation integration, including renewable energy.
Hybrid Work ScheduleCandidates must reside in the Framingham, MA office territory (MA, CT, NH, RI) and work 1–4 days in the office with additional days remote. Work arrangements provide a blend of client interaction, industry events, on‑site collaboration and development opportunities.
Responsibilities- Execute substation physical projects, including design and quality control.
- Communicate with internal teams and clients to define project requirements.
- Perform quality control checks on substation physical design projects.
- Read and design substation physical drawings: one‑line, three‑line, plan‑section, foundation and grounding drawings.
- Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects.
- Attend site visits at customer locations.
- Maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and adhere to quality control and safe work practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with at least 4 years of substation physical design experience.
- Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal teams and clients.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressured situations.
- Collaboration and leadership skills in a team environment.
- Self‑starter who works independently with minimal direction.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
- High level of computer competency.
- Willingness to travel to project and/or client sites.
- Engineer Intern (“EI” or “EIT”) professional certification.
- Professional Engineer (“PE”) license.
- Knowledge of protection and control design.
- Experience with bus calculations.
- Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
- Master’s degree in related field.
