Co‑opProgram Overview
For college students interested in engineering design for the built environment, CMTA offers a robust co‑op program for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Architectural Engineering. Co‑ops are immersed in hands‑on projects, trained by Professional Engineers in AutoCAD and Revit, and work on real construction drawings for CMTA projects.
Position DetailsThis is a full time (40 hrs./week), onsite position with a competitive hourly rate and overtime eligibility. The role starts around August 2026 and runs through Fall 2026, with dates flexible to accommodate the school calendar. Co‑op students may rotate multiple times and be considered for full time employment upon graduation.
Job DescriptionThe ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work well with a team and independently.
We will provide hands‑on training in electrical design and the opportunity to work on challenging MEP projects.
Job Functions- Learn and implement electrical system basics (power, power distribution, lighting & controls, fire alarm systems) for new construction and renovation projects.
- Produce detailed layout and equipment details for building electrical systems.
- Create one‑line diagrams and schematics.
- Assis t the design team in assembling organized sets of drawings.
- Help with data collection and field verification.
- Collaborate with designers and engineers to develop all aspects of a project.
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering, preferably a sophomore or junior.
- Strong interest in Building Systems Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work both independently and with a team.
- Must be able to work full time in the Columbus office throughout the co‑op term.
- Must be able to travel locally for job site inspections and field work.
