The MA Bio-Campus is home to Sanofi’s digital facility, which won ISPE’s Facility of the Future and Facility of the Year 2020. The Manufacturing Systems & Automation group executes Sanofi’s Digital Strategy to deliver innovative solutions, focusing on Digital 4.0 and continuous improvement.
Position OverviewThe Automation Engineer II is responsible for providing automation expertise for small to medium projects, including continuous improvement and retrofit projects. This role involves troubleshooting and supporting delivery of future enhancements, maintaining automation systems across multiple manufacturing facilities, and ensuring system availability.
Key Responsibilities- Providing leadership and direction to junior team members while embodying Sanofi Global Leadership Model.
- Ensuring timely issue escalation to senior management and cross-functional support teams.
- Partnering with support teams (Manufacturing, Quality, etc.) to meet production schedules.
- Providing technical solutions to process automation challenges, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Ensuring process equipment automation supports operations schedule requirements.
- Managing small departmental projects and ensuring appropriate controls, approvals, and validation requirements are implemented.
- Integrating systems and data from a variety of skidded systems, analytical equipment, and process/building control systems.
- Developing robust solutions with minimal downtime and ensuring data integrity.
- Contributing to the development of automation standards.
- Provide technical solutions to a wide range of process automation related design challenges.
- Ensure automation systems are available to support operations schedule requirements.
- Manage small departmental projects and implement controls, approvals, and validation requirements.
- Integrate systems and data from diverse sources.
- Develop robust solutions with minimal downtime and data integrity.
- Contribute to automation standards.
- Comply with Sanofi training requirements.
- Ensure inspection readiness of assigned areas.
- Oversee completion of investigations and deviations.
- Ensure all deviations and CAPAs are closed in a timely manner.
- Ensure automation documentation is compliant and inspection ready.
- Participate in external regulatory inspections.
- Comply with Genzyme Safety Program including OSHA requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead timely and productive changes.
- Partner with Manufacturing to troubleshoot and resolve process issues and drive improvement projects.
- Partner with Operational Excellence to drive process improvements through Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, and VSM.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or related technological field and at least 2 years of automation experience, preferably in life sciences.
- Master’s degree with at least 1 year of automation experience, preferably in life sciences.
- Direct experience with regulated environments (cGMP, OSHA, EPA).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with DeltaV automation.
- Experience with multiple computerized systems (Ignition, Werum PAS-X, PI, etc.).
- Experience with SCADA/PLC systems (Rockwell Factory Talk/RSLogix, Honeywell).
- Understanding of network infrastructure.
- Experience with systems/network/validation, preferably in pharmaceutical or other process industries.
- Electrical or Chemical Engineering background.
- Experience in establishing safe practices in a cGMP environment.
- Understanding of virtual environments, VMware, Hyper-V.
- Proficient with Windows, VBA, MS Word, Excel, Access.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Self-motivated and accountable.
- Proven technical and analytical skills to resolve automation system issues.
- Required manufacturing operations support on a rotating "on call" 24/7 basis.
- Requires working in an industrial manufacturing environment, including gowning.
