Substation Physical Engineer

As a Substation Physical Engineer, you will design and oversee electrical substation projects for electric utilities operating between 12 kV and 500 kV, applying knowledge of digital logic design, AC and DC circuits, and substation construction standards.

Based in Framingham, MA. Work 1–4 days in the office while performing client service across MA, CT, NH, and RI.

• Execute substation physical projects, including one‑line, three‑line, plan‑section, foundation, and grounding drawings.
• Perform quality control checks on substation physical design projects and bill‑of‑materials verification.
• Attend customer site visits to gather requirements and verify design compliance.
• Ensure project scope, schedule, and budget adherence while following safety and quality control standards.

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 4 + years of substation physical design experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with internal teams and clients.
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and work independently with minimal direction.
• Proficiency with computer‑aided design tools and strong analytical problem‑solving skills.
• Willingness to travel to project and client sites.

• Engineer Intern (EI / EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• Experience with grounding/lighting studies, bus calculations, and protection and control design.
• Knowledge of WinIGS or CDEGS.
• Master’s degree in a related field.

Fast‑paced, diverse work environment with flexible hours. The role is part of a design team composed of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians using client standards.
