Job Title

Automation Engineer – Framingham, MA

Overview

Provide automation expertise for small‑to‑medium projects, continuous improvement, retrofit, and large capital investments to optimize manufacturing and supporting operations. Design, architect, troubleshoot, and deliver future enhancements for automation‑related systems with a focus on Digital
4.0. Maintain and support automation systems across multiple manufacturing facilities, ensuring availability and data integrity.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead automation‑related projects and manage contractors for staff augmentation or project roles.
  • Provide technical solutions to a wide range of process automation design challenges, ensuring they are imaginative, thorough, practical, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure process equipment automation is available to support operations schedule requirements.
  • Manage medium‑to‑large departmental projects, implementing appropriate controls, approvals, and validation requirements.
  • Integrate systems and data from a variety of skid‑mounted systems, analytical equipment, and process/building control systems.
  • Develop robust solutions with minimal downtime and ensure data integrity; lead development of automation standards.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior automation engineers, fostering compliant and efficient solutions.
  • Collaborate with support teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Operations) to ensure deliverables meet production schedules.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams for inspections, investigations, deviations, CAPA, and documentation compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, partnering with Manufacturing and Operational Excellence to implement Kaizens, Kanban, 5S, and VSM.
  • Comply with Sanofi requirements for training, safety programs, Health and Safety regulations, and OSHA requirements.
  • Participate in external regulator inspections and maintain inspection‑ready documentation.
  • Serve on a rotating on‑call 24/7 basis to support manufacturing operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or related field with 5+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Hands‑on programming experience in real‑time manufacturing automation and control systems (e.g., DeltaV, PLCs, PI, Werum PAS‑X).5
  • Proficient with troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for manufacturing control systems, specifically Delta

    V.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing operations via Delta

    V.
  • Knowledge of bus technologies, instrumentation, and validation requirements in CGMP and/or ASTM environments.
  • Experience with SCADA/PLC systems (Rockwell Factory Talk/RSLogix, Honeywell).
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure, systems/network/validation—preferred in chemical, pharmaceutical, food, or other process industries.
  • Experience implementing safe practices in a cGMP environment.
  • Proficient with Windows, VBA, MS Office applications, etc.
  • Ability to deliver solutions based on Digital
    4.0, SaaS, IoT, and edge devices.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills to quickly resolve automation system issues.
Working Conditions

Required manufacturing operations support on a rotating on‑call 24/7 basis; on‑site in an industrial manufacturing environment requiring gowning.

Salary range: $ – $ (commensurate with experience).
