Adjunct Faculty, Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Mass Bay is launching an exciting new Associate Degree program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and we are seeking passionate, student‑centered professionals who want to help shape the future of the sonography profession. Adjunct faculty will have the opportunity to teach in modern simulation labs using high‑quality imaging equipment while contributing to a dynamic, inclusive learning community.

Depending on program needs, adjunct faculty may teach didactic, laboratory, or skill‑development courses on campus, online, remotely, or in a hybrid format while demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching excellence, student engagement, and student success.

Key
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach assigned courses in classroom, laboratory, hybrid, remote, or online formats using approved curriculum, protocols, and procedures;
- Develop, review, and update course content as needed;
- Collaborate with program leadership to monitor student progress, identify needs, and support student success;
- Contribute to course and program learning outcome assessment;
- Create an inclusive, engaging, and student‑centered learning environment;
- Assist with initiating, developing, and supporting clinical sites;
- Support clinical education, including student supervision, evaluation, and competency assessment;
- Communicate clearly, evaluate students objectively, and work collaboratively with colleagues;
- Maintain professional currency through continuing professional development;
- Use College technology platforms to communicate with students and colleagues and support learning, as appropriate;
- Assist with program accreditation activities and related documentation;
- Demonstrate current knowledge and experience in the Sonography/Ultrasound content areas taught;
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean or designee.
Additional Responsibilities and Duties Outside of Teaching:
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program will welcome its first cohort in fall 2026. The adjunct faculty member will help strengthen connections between the College and clinical partners to support the development of clinical sites. This role will also assist the Program Director in preparing for the initial site visit, engaging with prospective students, and participating in information sessions as scheduling permits.
Some travel may be required for clinical site visits and introductory meetings with hospitals and clinics. With advance notice, the adjunct faculty member may also be required to be on campus; however, much of this work may be completed remotely. This role is compensated at an hourly rate of $35/hr, for up to 10 hours per week, with an anticipated average commitment of 5–7 hours per week.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from an accredited program or institution;
- Current ARDMS or ARRT(S) credential(s) in the specialty area(s) taught;
- Minimum of two years of professional clinical experience in sonography;
- Strong communication skills and a passion for student success;
- Must be registered and maintain current certifications in Abdomen and OB and Vascular;
- Must be organized, able to meet deadlines, and have excellent interpersonal and written skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of affirmative action;
- Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
- Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
- Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field preferred;
- Prior teaching or clinical precepting experience preferred but not required; mentorship and training provided;
- Established relationships with healthcare facilities in Massachusetts and surrounding areas to support clinical placements and partnerships.
