Framingham Public Schools – District-wide position for a Substitute School Nurse available immediately. The role provides direct support to students to maintain, improve, or adapt to their health status, contributing significantly to the attainment of optimal health and educational potential for each student.

POSITION SUMMARY
:
To provide direct support to students by assisting them to maintain, improve or adapt to their health status. To contribute significantly to the attainment of optimal health and educational potential of each student, in order to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, and the closing of the opportunity gap among subgroups within the schools.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
:
Valid Massachusetts (DESE) nursing license is preferred but not required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
:
At least an Associate’s Degree in the major area of study. Experience in school, pediatric, public health, or other relevant nursing experience is preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITY
:

• Apply knowledge of current research and theory in the educational field.
• Communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
• Present information and respond to questions from staff, parents, and the general public.
• Read, analyze and interpret professional periodicals, journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
• Write reports and correspondence as needed.
• Use reasoning to evaluate information and recommend an appropriate course of action.
• Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Use professional literature and evidence‑based research for practice decisions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community.
• Work independently, prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously.
• Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and FPS policies.
• Work with students of diverse backgrounds and needs in an equitable and inclusive manner.
• Maintain appropriate confidential records.
• React professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations.
• Operate a computer and related software, including Google Suite.
• Plan, coordinate, conduct and participate in ongoing professional and staff development.
• Communicate with cooperating agencies in the field of school health, health providers, students, parents and school professionals.
• Organize a health office and maintain and develop health records.
• Knowledge of nursing principles, school health practices and relevant laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:

• Administer medications from physicians’ orders (orally, parentally, nasogastric, or gastrostomy tube).
• Maintain medication and student health record.
• Manage and provide health room services, including first aid and CPR, according to established procedures.
