A Day in the Life
The Broadband Network Technician I is responsible for detecting, troubleshooting and resolving system outages for data, video, and telephone. This role will be responsible for emergency restoration of coax, underground cable, maintenance of power supply, leakage and splicing. The BNT I is required to maintain documentation as needed and participates in a 24/7 on‑call rotation.
Key Responsibilities- Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages in aerial and/or underground capacities related to transmission levels, signal losses and off‑air interference.
- Prepare and perform emergency aerial and/or underground coaxial cable restoration due to cable breaks or damage.
- Perform preventative maintenance (power supply, actives) through testing, balancing, alignment, and adjustments of components or equipment.
- Monitor, record and repair cable leakage in compliance with regulations.
- Assist co‑workers with fiber splicing activities.
- Complete and distribute required documentation such as work orders and daily logs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years experience as a telecom technician.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- Good customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Basic computer skills.
- Aptitude to learn to skills, problem solving, time management, teamwork, ability to work alone.
- Ability to read and interpret maps.
- Bucket Certified;
Ohm’s;
Understand the Outside Plant.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Work performed in both climate‑controlled and non‑climate‑controlled environments.
- Potential exposure to heat, cold, dust, damp conditions, uneven surfaces, heights, and moving vehicles.
- Prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and driving required.
- Ability to safely climb and work from ladders for extended periods.
- Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs and ladders; using hands above and below shoulder level.
- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, squat, crawl, and maintain various body positions; perform fine motor tasks, forceful gripping, and limited keyboarding.

The base salary range in Massachusetts for this position is $26.00–$29.00 per hour, with opportunities for bonus, benefits and commission. Pay may vary based on experience and qualifications.
