POSITION SUMMARY

The Athletic Coach provides strategic leadership, technical instruction, and holistic mentorship to student‑athletes within the Framingham High School athletic program. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Coach fosters a safe, inclusive, and competitive environment that prioritizes student‑athlete health, academic success, and character growth.

ABOUT FRAMINGHAM

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess or be willing to obtain MIAA‑required coaching certifications, including CPR/First Aid and Concussion Training.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education: High School Diploma required;
    Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 2–4 years of successful experience in playing and/or coaching the specific sport beyond high school graduation.
  • Language Proficiency: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITY

  • Athletic Leadership & Instruction: Apply knowledge of current research, sport‑specific theory, and effective coaching methodologies.
  • Communication & Presentation: Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
  • Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Use data‑driven insights to evaluate player performance.
  • Safety & Emergency Management: Demonstrate ability to respond to medical emergencies.
  • Relationship Building & Cultural Proficiency: Build relationships with students, caregivers, staff, and community.
  • Professionalism & Adaptability: Maintain punctual attendance and a proactive approach.
  • Organizational Management: Prioritize tasks and manage logistics.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality: Follow MIAA rules, district requirements, and FERPA.
  • Technology: Operate Google Workspace and athletic‑specific technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Strategic Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide direct training and guidance to athletes.
  • Identify strengths and build athlete confidence.
  • Model high standards of sportsmanship and antiracism.
  • Support academic proficiency and time management.
II. Program Design & Implementation
  • Develop and execute practice schedules.
  • Assess athlete performance during training and competition.
  • Advise on nutrition, injury prevention, and equipment use.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Athletics for scheduling and transportation.
III. Compliance, Regulatory & Legal Oversight
  • Adhere to district health protocols and MIAA regulations.
  • Oversee equipment care, maintenance, and inventory.
  • Maintain confidential records regarding eligibility and medical clearances.
IV. Personnel Management & Collaboration
  • Build collaborative relationships with parents, staff, and community.
  • Communicate clearly about expectations and progress.
  • Engage diverse athletes culturally.
  • Participate in professional development and coaches’ meetings.

Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Athletic Mobility & Navigation: Move throughout facilities frequently.
  • Stationary Tasks: Perform administrative duties.
  • Technology & Data: Input digital data with mobile devices or computers.
  • Manual Dexterity: Operate equipment and demonstrate techniques.
  • Physical Strength: Move at least 25 lbs.
  • Sensory Requirements: Seeing and hearing continuously.
  • Environmental Exposure: Work both indoor and outdoor in various weather.
