Assistant Project Manager

Malone is recruiting on behalf of our client for an Assistant Project Manager to join a growing, privately-owned manufacturing company specializing in custom architectural metal fabrication. This on-site role offers hands-on training, strong mentorship, and a clear path to becoming a full Project Manager.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate, trade school graduate, or early-career professional who wants to learn project management in a collaborative, low-red-tape environment while working closely with experienced Project Managers, engineering, drafting, and shop teams.
Position Details
- Position Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time
- Location: On-site - Frankfort, IL
- Hours:
- Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-5:00pm
- Friday: 7:00am-3:30pm
- Salary ranges:
- $50k - $55k (Entry level candidates or candidates with 0-2 years of experience)
* Training provided* - $55k - 75k (Based on Experience) With 3-6 years' applicable experience

- 1st Year Career Path: Assistant Project Manager to Project Manager
- Training: Hands-on training and shadowing for the first 6 months
Project Coordination & Execution
- Assist with managing projects from initial submittal through fabrication and close-out
- Create schedules of values and coordinate project timelines
- Partner with drafters to lay out projects and review drawings for accuracy
- Submit drawings for engineering review and customer approval
- Track changes throughout the submittal and approval process
- Obtain quotes for outside materials and finishes from vendors
- Release projects to fabrication once approved
- Communicate with the shop during fabrication
- Schedule and coordinate all project-related shipments
- Maintain consistent communication with customers throughout the project lifecycle
- Participate in project meetings and provide status updates
- Prepare close-out documentation and follow up on customer needs
- Minimum of 0 - 5 years' experience (will hire direct; out of college)
- Experience in project management. (If not entry level)
- Must know how to read Architectural Drawings (required)
- Must possess and exhibit a positive, "can do" attitude even in high stress situations with an unwavering commitment to "world class customer service"
- Excellent communicator (oral and written), assertive, highly organized, determined to succeed, detail oriented and enthusiastic
- Ability to focus in a busy, team environment and working with the Customer/Engineering/Drafter & Shop Supervisor in an effective manner
- Ability to conceive new approaches, streamline processes, and create customer interactions
- Strong time management skills with ability to multi-task
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings (required)
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a proactive, "can-do" mindset
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Willingness to learn and grow into a full Project Manager role
- AutoCAD or drafting exposure
- Experience working with general contractors or subcontractors
- Background in custom fabrication or architectural products, or involving mill work, architectural design (metal custom design).
