Head of Procurement and Logistics
The Head of Procurement and Logistics is responsible for leading the organization’s procurement strategy while overseeing daily operations of the Logistics and Purchasing functions. This role ensures cost‑effective sourcing, supplier performance, inventory flow, and timely delivery of goods and services. It provides strategic direction, manages cross‑functional teams, and drives continuous improvement across procurement, logistics, and purchasing activities. The role communicates daily with factories, maintains positive relationships, and works closely with the President of Craig Bachman Imports.
Duties- Develop and execute procurement strategies that align with organizational goals, budget targets, and operational needs.
- Oversee daily operations of the Logistics and Purchasing departments, ensuring efficient workflow, compliance, and service levels.
- Directly manage and support the Sample Processing Manager, Logistics Manager, and Purchasing Manager, providing leadership, coaching, and performance oversight.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors to achieve optimal value, quality, and delivery.
- Monitor supplier performance, resolve issues, and maintain strong vendor relationships.
- Ensure accurate purchasing, inventory control, shipping, and receiving processes.
- Analyze procurement, logistics, and purchasing metrics to identify cost savings, process improvements, and risk mitigation opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical sourcing standards.
- Lead special projects related to system improvements or process standardization.
- Price generation overview and approvals, including new items and regular updates.
- Delegate sample processing department duties, coordinate projects, and manage workloads during slower periods.
- Process container direct, FOB orders ensuring factory MOQs, accurate FOB pricing, and container volumes; place purchase orders with suppliers.
- Sample billing / freight billing (UPS/FEDEX).
- Assign duties, follow‑up, conduct annual reviews, and performance discussions for direct reports.
- Daily communication with vendors.
- Travel to trade shows as needed.
- Hold weekly department meetings; attend monthly Manager Meetings and Executive Manager Meeting.
- Attend and present twice a year at Board Meetings.
- Work closely with the President of Craig Bachman Imports.
- Other duties as directed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in procurement management, with oversight of logistics and purchasing functions preferred.
- Strong negotiation, vendor management, and contract management skills.
- Experience leading and developing managers and teams.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across departments.
- Ability to supervise and direct others.
- Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong mathematical aptitude, and a self‑motivated, deadline‑driven work ethic.
Office environment, occasional warehouse and showroom environment. Travel by airplane for trade shows.
Physical RequirementsYou must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period, stand, walk, and occasionally lift boxes. This is a full‑time position. The normal work week is 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. It will require Saturday and Sunday hours during peak times throughout the year. There is also a travel requirement to our Dallas showroom at least twice a year to work the trade shows.
