Youth Services Manager Job Objective
The Youth Services Clerk will provide quality library service, materials and programs to preschool, school aged children, young adults, and adult patrons at Frankfort and the branch libraries.
SchedulePart-time, non-exempt, hourly position, 24 hours per week Work evenings and weekends as scheduled $12/hr
Duties and Responsibilities- Staffing youth services desks in Children’s & Teens including days, evenings, and Saturdays
- Maintaining accurate youth services statistics
- Helping to keep materials organized by shelving, shelf reading, helping with weeding, etc.
- Assembles program materials as needed
- Assists with programs
- Serve patrons at the Children’s and Teen’s Information Desks or on the telephone by assisting with material locations and selection.
- Provide excellent customer service, reference service to patrons
- Checks out materials
- Informs and registers patrons for programs
- Gather books for patron requests
- Help set up book arrangement under the coordinated programmers
- Read professional publications
- Attend Staff Day and library conferences
- Cleans Children’s Area toys as needed
- Upholding and enforcing library policies
- Preforms library tasks as assigned
- Other duties may be assigned by the Library Director or the Youth Services Manager
- High School Diploma preferred
- Experience with children and previous library experience is helpful.
- Self-direction and resourcefulness
- Ability to effectively communicate person to person, on the telephone, and in writing
- Knowledge of child development adequate to help children select materials and assist staff in presenting programs for all ages of children
- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of children’s and youth literature and authors
- Ability to learn and use check out procedure, the Online Public Catalog, Dewey decimal system, shelving placement and library procedures
- Must be physically able to move book carts, shelve books on both high and low shelves
- Able to file books accurately alphabetically by author and by Dewey numbers.
- Computers, typewriters, copy machine, printer, audio and video equipment, cooking equipment and appliances, arts and crafts supplies, letter cutter, carts, shelving equipment, office equipment, vacuum cleaner, paper cutter, flannel board, ladder, small appliances, sewing machine, etc.
