Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
We are seeking a student enrolled in a Certified John Deere Ag Tech Program at a participating college. Applications from candidates not meeting this requirement will not be considered.
Program OverviewThe John Deere TECH program is a two‑year associate’s degree that provides advanced training in John Deere products and systems. It is a strict prerequisite for employment in this role. The program is sponsored by TRU LAND Equipment at Owens Community College in Toledo, OH;
Lake Land College in Mattoon, IN; and Vincennes University in Vincennes, IN.
Participate in on‑the‑job training assisting service technicians in basic service tasks to learn key skills for a future mechanic tech position. While working, complete the two‑year associate degree through the accredited John Deere TECH program and become a certified service mechanic tech in the three core areas:
Electrical, Hydraulics, and Service ADVISOR.
- Complete two years of instructor‑led classroom and lab training at a John Deere Tech School.
- Complete the minimum hours required of working onsite at the dealership.
- Obtain certification in Electrical, Hydraulics, and Service ADVISOR training.
- Complete the required number of John Deere University credits.
- Assist senior technicians as needed.
- Learn and perform basic service tasks as assigned.
- Develop an understanding of labor efficiencies and meet labor efficiency goals.
- Understand service department operations and dealer business system usage.
- Develop skills in removal, disassembly, and reconditioning of components.
- May perform pre‑delivery set‑up and inspection of new equipment.
- Accountable for billable time and assigned work orders.
- Responsible for complete and thorough documentation of diagnostics and repairs performed on work orders and on‑time submission of information.
- May participate in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for skill and knowledge development.
- Operate and maintain vehicles, tools and equipment required to perform job responsibilities.
- Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Maintain current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products.
- A company‑supplied toolbox and tools valued at $3,500.
- A TRULAND Scholarship Award of $1,000 per semester for eligible students, totaling up to $5,000.
