The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, findwork, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces.

The Department of Disability Determination Services Programs (DDDSP) assists and determines eligibility for Social Security Administration Disability benefits for the citizens in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

We are seeking an Administrative Specialist to provide professional support in the review, evaluation and implementation of agency activities in the Case Closure Section.

The Administrative Specialist position is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means it is aposition that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceedthe life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee.

An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits atthe same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

  • Interpret and apply policy and procedure from Social Security Administration in regard to receipting disability claims; review proposed changes in federal policies to determine need in agency procedures.
  • Review incoming cases for jurisdiction and other documentation necessary for receipting and assigning cases in the Disability Determination Services.
  • Consult with staff by phone or in person when needed toresolve issues in receipts.
  • Assign Assistance Requests.
  • Review requests for prior folders and utilizes federal system to process requests.
  • Documentfindings on case worksheet.
  • Review requests for case transfers for special workloads and transfer cases based on state policy.
  • Process incoming and outgoing prior folders for state agency.
  • Review incoming prior folders and current filing to determine type of prior folder.
  • Utilize state and federal system to document incoming prior folders on worksheet.
  • Attach the appropriate flag and documentation on folder before taking it to unit mailbox.
  • Review outgoing prior folder to determine destination before attaching routing slip.
  • Utilize state and federal system to make phone calls to claimants and, or, Medical Evidence Request(MER) vendors for follow-ups.

This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
