The Department for Facilities and Support Services, Division of Building Services is responsible for preventive maintenance, general repairs, small construction projects, snow removal and other landscaping services, janitorial services, and many other essential day-to-day building functions.

The Construction Superintendent I provides supervision and leadership for the Construction Branch Special Events staff, mostly in and around the Capitol Complex, but also includes projects for satellite building locations. This position is critical for the Special Events section to perform the many duties assigned, frequently with little notice.

This position will assist the Construction Superintendent II in completing daily tasks. This position will work with other craftsmen, do renovations, preventative maintenance, repair and upgrades on properties both inside and outside. The ideal candidate for this position will be a team player as they will interact daily with other staff while performing the functions regarding the agency's construction of small and large projects at state buildings.

The chosen candidate will need to understand the Purchasing Procurement system, Facilities Management-Works and other computer construction systems. Tact, diplomacy, and broad-based knowledge are essential for success.

We're looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Construction Superintendent I who has strong leadership, planning and organizational skills, is highly motivated, self-directed and comfortable leading a team. This person will need to like working with people and thrive in a challenging dynamic environment. This person needs to be a team player and have strong verbal and written communications skills.

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

SKILLS:

Three years of experience as construction estimator, general contractor, architect, engineer, construction superintendent, in construction trades or in supervising one or more trades crews in major construction, or major renovation or major maintenance repair projects.

Additional experience as listed above will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions Employee will be exposed to noise, dirt, temperature variances and other conditions inherent to construction sites.

Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
