JOB SUMMARY:

Kentucky State University invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Applied Instrument - Piano. The instructor will provide individualized applied piano instruction to students enrolled in the Music program, supporting their technical, artistic, and academic development. This position plays an essential role in preparing students for performance, pedagogy, and continued study in music.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Provide weekly individual piano lessons designed to enhance students' technical proficiency, musical expression, and interpretive skills.

* Prepare students for juries, recitals, ensemble participation, auditions, and other performance assessments.

* Develop lesson plans, syllabi, and course materials consistent with departmental standards and NASM accreditation requirements.

* Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and grades in accordance with University policy.

* Participate in end-of-semester juries and evaluations to assess student proficiency and progress.

* Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages artistic growth and academic integrity.

* Communicate effectively with the Department Chair and Coordinator regarding scheduling, student performance, and curricular needs.

* Redundant phrasing of "providing specialized instruction" and repetitive description of juries/lessons.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED:

* Demonstrated excellence in piano performance and pedagogy.

* Strong commitment to undergraduate music education and student success.

* Ability to engage, motivate, and assess students through effective instructional techniques.

* Competence with instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard).

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively within the department and the university community.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

* This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

OTHER DUTIES:

* Performs other related duties as assigned in support of the academic program and institutional mission.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To qualify as an adjunct instructor at Kentucky State University, the individual must meet:

* A Master's degree in the teaching discipline, or

* A Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field.

* Record of successful applied teaching at the college or secondary level preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

* Work is performed primarily on campus in instructional studios and performance spaces.

* Requires availability for weekly lessons, student juries, and departmental events as assigned.

* This is a temporary, part-time exempt position; no benefits are associated with adjunct appointments.
