PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Adjunct faculty will work under the supervision of the academic administrator or the academic faculty of the course. The adjunct faculty will have duties and responsibilities expected of regular full-time faculty members in the unit.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
* Under the leadership of the Program Administrator and Director of Graduate Programs, facilitate quality learning experiences that provide:
* A risk-free environment for student learners that reinforce critical thinking and decision making and opportunities to enhance caring behaviors towards peers and patients
* Enhance student's ability to promote patient safety and quality health care, and clinical competence through selected critical thinking scenarios
* Improve performance, communication, and efficiency in clinical setting
* Promote evidence-based decision making for professional practice, empowerment of the student in preparation for the clinical setting
* Facilitate debriefing and positive feedback to enhance student learning
* Encourage students to self-analyze their performance and use critical thinking during the reflection process
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Review/refine a course syllabus to include instructor-specific contact information.
* Develop content and other course materials in support of course and weekly outcomes; including content that supports and enhances required readings forth e-course; includes the author's experiences and perspectives on key points; and aligns with the associated weekly objectives and outcomes.
* Provide relevant and timely feedback on submitted student work, including participation.
* Applies principles of adult learning and evidence-based practice.
* Compile and report grade-related information to students and administration.
* Inform and discuss student issues with Program Administrator, as applicable.
* Adhere to all instructor policies and procedures, as defined in the SON Faculty Handbook.
* Participate in regular instructor meetings, face-to-face and/or virtually, and contribute to process improvement efforts.
* Adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy ACT (FERPA) that protects the privacy of student educational records.
* Works under the supervision of the academic administrator of the director of the academic unit in which the course is listed and being taught and will attend an orientation session arranged by the director.
* Must designate a minimum of one (1) office hour per week per course to provide students with reasonable access for the purpose of academic assistance by appointment.
* Same duties, responsibilities and academic freedom with respect to the course(s) being taught as those normally expected of regular full-time faculty members in the unit.
* Will communicates in writing with students, Course Coordinator, Program Director, and/or student's academic advisor if student is not passing at midterm or at the end of the course.
* Shall attend at least one division faculty meeting and one general faculty meeting per semester.
* Will not be responsible for the academic advisement of majors in the program.
* Shall not be assigned academic rank during the term of employment.
* Shall not be eligible for any economic fringe benefits provided to regular full-time faculty members by the University except as required by Federal and/or state law, and not eligible for tenure; and time served as an Adjunct Faculty Member shall not be counted toward tenure, or as prior service, if later be appointed as a regular full-time member of Kentucky State University's faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate for DNP program; MSN for BSN program; BSN for AAS program.
Licensing and
Certifications:
Unencumbered license to practice registered nursing in Kentucky.
BLS/CPR certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
* Strong inter-personal skills when relating to students.
* Time management skills - adjunct instructors must be able to devote adequate time to courses, communicating timely feedback and engaging regularly in discussion.
* Effective written communication skills, including the abilities to:
* Convey complex topics in one's subject-matter to others
* Project a professional and appropriate online tone
* Moderate online discussions to promote in-depth engagement in course topics
* Provide useful feedback to students via their graded work
* Online teaching and/or learning experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
* Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 pounds.
* Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place in the job taking distance and speed into account.
