BASIC FUNCTIONTo manage the operation of the Library/Media Center in a manner which assures that it complements the instructional program of the school and each faculty member.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES- Searches for, evaluates, selects, and requisitions library/media center materials.
- Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials.
- Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new books/materials the library/media center acquires.
- Maintains a comprehensive system for cataloging all media.
- Instructs segments in media skills.
Note:
Where instruction is given to students, the Librarian/Media Center Coordinator will be evaluated in his/her use of the Teaching/Learning Process. The indicators for the classroom teacher will apply to instructional performance. - Works with teachers in planning assignments leading to extended use of library/media resources.
- Helps students to develop independent reference skills, including use of reference materials, in relation to planned assignments.
Note:
The note following item “5” applies if instruction is given. - Participates with the faculty in curriculum planning.
- Prepares and administers the Library/Media Center.
- Supervises aides in the performance of their duties.
- Prepares all required written reports and records related to the Library/Media Center.
- Is responsible for annual inventory of the Library/Media Center.
- Master’s Degree and Kentucky certification for Library Media Specialist.
- Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Salary to be established by the Board.
EVALUATIONPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
