Performs duties required by District, State, and Federal regulations for special education teachers.
Performance Responsibilities- Has a prepared lesson plan sufficient for instruction.
- Exercises proper care of materials and equipment.
- Communicates classroom needs to proper personnel.
- Arrives on time and stays for assigned hours.
- Communicates effectively with staff, parents, students, and administration.
- Accepts assistance, advice, and guidance from supervisors and seeks improvement.
- Shares ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.
- Is alert to district, school, and personal goals; seeks professional development.
- Maintains confidentiality of professional information unless disclosure is required by law.
- Respects rights, feelings, and differences of individuals and communicates directly in situations.
- Complies with restrictions on controlled substances, tobacco, alcohol, and dress.
- Does not verbally or physically harass students.
- Does not use profanity in presence of students.
- Does not engage in sexual contact with students.
- Diagnoses learning needs of each student and prescribes individual I.E.P.s.
- Acts as a resource person for teachers and parents to promote understanding of special education needs.
- Maintains documentation of due process and procedures.
- Assimilates and applies suggestions from related service personnel.
- Employs classroom management techniques that create an environment where students know expectations.
- Begins class promptly and communicates expected behaviors.
- Ensures students exhibit on-task behavior and intervenes on inappropriate behaviors promptly.
- Chooses and efficiently handles appropriate materials and equipment.
- Plans instruction effectively, establishes strategies, and sets behavioral objectives.
- Utilizes diagnostic, instructional, or review lesson plan formats appropriately.
- Recognizes student differences and tailors instruction accordingly.
- Communicates purpose of learning, connects to prior knowledge, and verifies understanding.
- Provides adequate practice and immediate feedback.
- Applies reinforcement theory and maintains a positive classroom climate.
- Encourages and acknowledges student effort.
- Schedules practice to guarantee retention.
- Collects data to evaluate student performance and plan future lessons.
- Approved certification with the State of Kentucky.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
