Adjunct Faculty – School of Psychology
Kentucky State University's School of Psychology seeks qualified, motivated adjunct faculty to join our team in delivering high-quality psychology education. The ideal candidate will have expertise in psychological theory, research, and applied practice and will be committed to supporting and mentoring students to prepare them for careers in psychology and related fields. The adjunct faculty will teach one or more undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses, potentially including online, hybrid, and in-person formats.
Essential Job Functions:
- Teaching:
Provide instruction in assigned psychology courses, following the approved curriculum and maintaining high standards of academic integrity and rigor. - Student Support:
Engage with and support students, including offering guidance, mentorship, and feedback to promote their academic and professional development. - Course Preparation and Grading:
Develop syllabi, create assignments, and maintain grading and attendance records. - Communication:
Be available to students and the School of Psychology team for consultation and communication, including attending meetings as required. - Professional Development:
Stay informed of developments in psychological science and education, and incorporate relevant advancements into course content.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
- Subject Knowledge:
Strong understanding of core areas in psychology such as cognitive, developmental, abnormal, social, and research methods. - Instructional
Skills:
Ability to effectively communicate complex topics to students with diverse learning needs. - Interpersonal
Skills:
A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. - Technology Proficiency:
Experience with online learning platforms (such as Canvas or Blackboard) and familiarity with tools for remote instruction and communication.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Master's degree in Psychology or a closely related field required; a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology is preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of two years of relevant professional or academic experience. Prior teaching experience, particularly in a university setting, is preferred. - Licensure:
Licensure as a psychologist is not required but may be considered an asset depending on the course content.
Working Conditions:
- Hours:
Part-time position; flexible scheduling may be available, though some on-campus presence may be required. - Location:
On-Site Main Campus in Frankfort Kentucky
